About

I have loved thee, Ocean!…from a boy I wanton’d with thy breakers.

Byron

KwaThula is our family’s white-washed seaside escape.  In it are many things dear to us: A chest full of board games. A cook’s kitchen. A beach bum’s hammock. Wood-burning fireplaces. But the sea is what has drawn us to Paternoster for more than 15 years. We take our shoes off, gather mussels, build sandcastles, explore tidal pools, forage dune spinach…

We built to share – with extended family, friends, guests, visitors. The main cottage is simply KwaThula (‘peaceful place’ in Xhosa) and the smaller cottage is KwaThula Too: a ‘granny flat’ beloved by a real granny (and Oupa).

Further details on how you can stay at KwaThula or KwaThula Too.

  1. Hello, I see you have a unit that seems wheelchair friendly, can you please indicate whether there is a grab rail next to the toilet?

    1. Hi Johann
There is a grab rail next to the toilet. I should advise that one previous guest in a wheelchair was not 100% happy with the placement of the grab rails. We have requested an assessment by a specialist consultant to help us make any appropriate changes. In the interim, I would be happy to send photos to you of these areas of detail if you would like, just to avoid any possible issues during your stay. Please email us on stay@kwathula.com and I will forward those to you. Thanks for your enquiry.
